On Oct. 5, I was on a business trip to Washington, D.C., which happened to coincide with a lobbying day for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network — the national organization fighting this disease in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure.
The organization is working to pass the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act — (S. 362 and H.R. 733), which will ensure that the National Cancer Institute develops a long-term comprehensive strategic plan for developing early diagnostics and treatment options that will increase the survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients.
I spent most of that day in the U.S. Capitol talking about pancreatic cancer research, the need for innovation and a strategic plan of action. On the plane ride back to California, I learned that Steve Jobs passed away from his rare form of pancreatic cancer (pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors).
